The Moto Builds Pilipinas and Big Bike Expo presented by Makina Moto Show and AUB Big Bike Loan gathered 4 top contenders for the annual Biker Build Off.
Themed Veterans vs Upstarts, Makina is in partnership with Yamaha Motor Philippines to ignite a clash of bike builder eras.
A total of four, two of which represent established custom bike garages namely Laguna Choppers led by industry vet Mr. Elmer Reyes and Two Kool Hard Choppers from Japan, pioneered by Masa Mark Muto from Kawaguchi. On the other hand, quiet but highly creative Dirty Lokals, by Karlo Alingay is also from Laguna. Last but not the least, emerging commercial/clothing brand STKD led by JV Borromeo completes the 2019 lineup.
This year’s biker build base bike is a Yamaha Sight 115 Fi popularly known as the ‘mileage king’ due to its good fuel efficiency rating. The challenge is to convert the underbone into a dirt bike. The challengers were given 2 months to convert the Yamaha Sight until the event due date.
It’s show time and the afternoon of the first day, the bikes we’re revealed. 4 unique bikes unveiled with varying concepts which proved that it can be done. The concept was served to create a fuel efficient off-road machine.
On evening of the show’s final showcase day, the builders should vote on each other to determine the grand winner. Laguna Choppers and STKD got tied with the builders’ votes. The thrilling tie-breaker came from the official build off judges who also voted for them and unanimously, the Champion for this year’s build-off is industry veteran, Elmer Reyes of the Laguna Choppers.
It was a wild feat. The bike build off tradition keeps on pushing local talents on getting better every year. The big question is, are we ready to compete in the international stage?
