Delos Reyes, Tan lead final round of Touge Battle
The Touge Battle celebrated its final race of the season by returning to the former Subic International Raceway, with Mars Hizon delos Reyes and Christian Tan leading the winners.
Behind by a point to former champion Daniel “Elpaks” Leonardo entering the final round, Delos Reyes edged his friend and rival to move on to the final round against Andre Tan, with the two battling four times with alternate wins and one battle ending with the exact same lap time.
The experience of Delos Reyes, however, prevailed as Tan lost the battle due to a penalty after hitting a cone.
Meanwhile, Christian Tan took advantage of the opportunity in the 17-driver Regular Class when Perpekto Pakutkut, the fastest man in the class, failed to advance as he misjudged his breaking point. Tan moved on to defeat Justin Estrella in the finals of their class.
Defending champion Brennan Lim dominated the 18-driver field in the Premium Class and lost only one battle until the finals to take home a very convincing win. Jack Cuaresma came in second, with Adrian Alfonso, one of the most improved drivers for the season, grabbing third place.
The Prestige Class only had two participants in defending champion Chris Ho and Antonio Lombardo, with the former showing better control of his V8 monster to keep his title.
It was business as usual for the now three-time Turbo Class Champion Hernel Castillo in his Subaru STI as he bounced back after losing to Aurick Go in a Mazda RX-7 after hitting one cone. Castillo made sure he was perfect in the final round, taking the fastest lap for the day and extending his reign in his class. Fritz Chua placed 3rd.
Jose Moreno took the championship in the Race 3 class, with Rico Buendia, claiming second after defeating the day’s youngest racer–10-year-old Czebastian Malang.
Former RWYB champion Felix Perez drove excellently to take the championship in the Race 2 Class, followed by Enrique Hormillo (second) and Russ Agapito (third).
It was an all-Team Centrum battle in Race 1 as teammates Mikko Briones, Daryl Flores and Migui Briones grabbed the top 3 spots.
Susie Isana convincingly clinched the top spot for the Ladies’ Class, followed by GT Academy finalist Elysse Menorca, with Johanna Espinosa in a very close 3rd-place finish.
Justin Estrella ruled the Newbie Class, Fritz Chua took 2nd and Michael Ocampo ranked 3rd. Estrella also was awarded Touge King, while Hernel Castillo took home the Fastest Lap award for the day.
