Pimentel pushes Congress to prioritize granting emergency powers to Duterte

PH becoming uncompetitive due to worsening traffic

Due to the increasing economic loss in the country, Senator Aquilino Pimentel III urged the congress to prioritize the granting of emergency powers to President Rodrigo Duterte to solve the Metro’s worsening traffic woes.

In a statement released, Pimentel asked the Congress to revisit the proposals made to grant emergency powers to the President, that they should also consider the losses incurred such as man-hours, individual’s productivity, and opportunities every day, making the country’s economy uncompetitive from the neighboring countries.

With the Php 3.5 billion economic loss last year, Pimentel said that once the emergency powers were granted to the Pres. Duterte, the government could immediately enter into projects that will alleviate and solve the crippling traffic. Projects like, according to Pimentel, building, and construction of elevated roads and walkways, as well as bike lanes along EDSA, Ortigas Avenue, Shaw Boulevard, and Ayala Avenue, and equivalent traffic bridges in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao.

“Mas maganda rin siguro kung ang mga proyektong ito ay pangangasiwaan ng pribadong sektor para masiguradong maayos ang paggamit at pagpapanatili ng mga ito,” said Pimentel in his statement published in Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Pimentel also hopes that business sectors and various business organizations will consider and support this call.
