Yamaha Motor Philippines, Inc. launched the newest addition to its extensive lineup of Automatics (AT) at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City last December 4, 2019. Taking the spotlight after the media festivities that evening was the Mio Gravis, a handsome scooter powered by an air-cooled 125cc fuel injected single cylinder motor that features Yamaha’s Blue Core Technology that promises more power while using less fuel. Further enhancing fuel efficiency is the addition of the standard Stop & Start System which when enabled, will automatically switch off the motor after sitting idle for 5 seconds. The Smart Motor Generator will automatically switch on the motor when throttle is applied.
Unlike the Mio Sporty, i125, and Soul i125 the Gravis is equipped with smaller 12-inch wheels (rather than 14-inch) shod with fatter and wider tubeless tires (110/90-12 rear, 100/90-12 front) for better grip and ride comfort. Stopping duties are handled by a rear drum and front disc brake setup. There’s no ABS but interestingly an ABS-ring and sensor are present on the front disc rotor which suggests ABS might be offered in the future.
Other interesting features of the Gravis are the front-mounted fuel filler lid that not only makes it more convenient for the rider when refueling, it also frees up a lot of space under the seat. Relocating the fuel tank also gave the Gravis a 25 liter under seat storage capacity. Standard features of the Gravis are the fully digital instrument panel, USB power socket, LED lights, rear brake lever lock, and side-stand kill switch. The Gravis is available in Matte Red, Matte Green, and Matte Black. The Gravis suggested retail price is PhP 85,900.
