The Maxus V80 Comfort is practically a mini-bus. Though it uses a slightly shorter wheelbase compared to the more luxurious G10 mini-van, its taller height and wider width is able to create the capacity to carry 13 full-size, albeit slim, adults. The length is 4950 mm, width 1998 mm, and height 2132 mm, with a 3100 mm wheelbase. It is a commercial vehicle that is reconfigured to be a practical and comfortable people mover. Maxus sells two variants of the V80, one called the Comfort for passengers, our white test unit, and the more industrial panel-van Flex model that sells for P1,190,000.00 that uses steel rims, no front fog lamps, and no rear passenger seating.
To maximize interior space and price the Maxus V80 uses a front-wheel drive powered by a transverse 2.5-liter turbodiesel mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The tall suspension is straightforward; independent McPhersons up front and parallel leaf springs on a torsion beam at the rear. It rides way better than expected and the seats are actually very comfortable as long as you don’t load more than 8-people. As soon as you reach maximum capacity however, unless you are carrying a contingent of beauty-pageant contestants, the seats quickly become cramped. The aircon is very strong too which is certainly ideal when you are carrying that number of passengers in our Philippine climate.
Thankfully since the ride height of the V80 is quite tall, Maxus uses a standard automatic electric retractable step-board for easy and safe ingress and exit. The steering is canted like a bus but performs appropriately. The transmission shifts smoothly and easily though Maxus would be able to serve more customers by offering an automatic in the future.
The plebian audios system uses only 4-hallow sounding speakers, I highly recommend that Maxus Philippines update the head unit to accommodate more speakers, a rear camera and navigation. For the price and its capacity, the Maxus V80 Comfort will certainly be a solution for big families and for commercial transport purposes.
