2022 Toyota RAV4 LTD Hybrid

Electrifying the Original Compact Crossover

Fresh from its most recent model update, the 5th generation Toyota RAV4, the original compact crossover, gains the new energized Hybrid system with the more balanced approach to fuel efficiency and driving enjoyment for our market. Unlike with the previous Hybrid systems experienced with the Prius, Corolla Altis Hybrid, and Corolla Cross Hybrid in our Philippine market based on the ubiquitous 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE engine drivetrain that dates back to 2009, the new Toyota RAV LTD Hybrid shares its significantly more potent 2.5-liter A25A-FXS engine (first used in 2017) with the award-winning Toyota Camry Hybrid, Lexus ES300h, and Lexus NX350h.

In most other markets that do offer the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid; all-wheel-drive with electrified propulsion for the rear with 3kW more power from the two electric motors, an even more potent 302 bhp Prime Plug-In hybrid variant with a 18.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and three electric motors for very strong acceleration (0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds) combined with a claimed all-EV range of 75 kilometers, stronger JBL audio systems, larger brakes on both ends, larger infotainment screens up to 9-inches, and so much more are offered but it is important to appreciate that Toyota Motor Philippines is not holding back these more expensive features without good reason, but are in fact striving to offer the very best possible packaging that our Philippine consumers can financially handle at a larger scale with the least amount of compromises.

The balancing act of Toyota Motor Philippines has resulted with what you see here with the RAV4 LTD Hybrid in White Pearl Crystal Shine (paint that costs an additional P15,000.00) which is the current top-of the range model with front wheel drive only but it has the 18-inch alloys (XLE model has 17-inch alloys), automatic rain-sensing wipers, load-bearing roof rails, more expansive ambient lighting compared to the XLE variant, powered trunk has the kick sensor for touchless operation, panoramic moonroof, leather seating with a powered driver’s seat (XLE gets cloth interior), 7-inch Multi-Information Display (XLE gets a 4.2-inch screen), in addition to the standard Toyota Safety Sense system it has a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and a 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor (XLE gets rear camera only), in two unique to the variant colors of Attitude Black Mica and Urban Khaki (there are 8 colors in total to choose from).

Both the XLE and LTD models have the same perky hybrid powertrains, the same 7-inch central infotainment system using 6-speakers with Apple Carplay & Android Auto connectivity, cruise control, both have wireless phone chargers, dual exhaust systems, the same fully independent suspension, front and rear parking sonar, rear climate control vents, equal number of USB ports and 12V accessory outlets, and the same full-LED signature lighting that include LED front fog lamps.

Compared to its direct competition, the Toyota RAV4 is slightly larger than the more refined but non-electrified Mazda CX-5 but feels about the same inside. The panoramic roof helps create the illusion of more interior space. It is incredibly fuel efficient without being plebian and boring to drive. Even with the single electric motor assisting the 2.5-liter gasoline engine, the RAV4 LTD accelerates from 0-100 km/h consistently under 8 seconds which is plenty quick for most people. At the moment, only the overachieving Mazda CX-5 2.5T AWD is quicker and more dynamic for less money than the RAV4 LTD Hybrid but it will definitely drink more fuel. The RAV4 Hybrid is so efficient that considering its fairly healthy dynamic performance ability, its fuel efficiency rating is very close to the smaller but incredible all-new Nissan Kicks e-Power, though it does cost significantly more for the extra pace, kit and cabin space.

The RAV4 Hybrid’s cabin is well built and tastefully outfitted, particularly the climate control knobs that are straightforward and perfect to use. There are generous amounts of storage cubbies and bins. The tilt and telescopic steering wheel is leather wrapped with good feel and plenty of remote controls at your fingertips. The 1.6-kWh battery is located under the rear seat so it does not reduce trunk space and improves weight balance. The brakes may look modestly sized but they are appropriately strong. The Toyota RAV4 LTD Hybrid is the largest, most feature-rich, most plush, best performing and most matured RAV4 model ever sold in the Philippines.
