Oil Change
Why is it important and how often should it be changed?

Regularly changing the oil in your car’s motor will reduce and remove any excess dirt that can build up in your engine from use. The truth is, no matter what type and kind of motor oil is used, it will eventually wear out and needs to be changed. Actually, it’s not really the oil, but the additives that wear out. The thing with motor oil is that there’s not really that much to know about its condition based on its appearance alone. This is because in most cases, it normally turns dark brown even only after a couple of thousand kilometers of use which is a good indication that it is working. Basically, oil changes greatly contribute to the cleanliness of your engine.
Top 5 Reasons Why Engines Need Regular Oil Change
- Maintain engine lubrication
- Cool engine components
- Remove engine wear and particles
- Improve gas mileage
- Promote vehicle longevity
Common FAQ Regarding Oil Change
What and how often should I get an oil change?
All vehicle manufacturers have a recommendation as to which grade of oil should be used for their vehicle and how often the oil should also be changed. Today’s modern diesel engines require more frequent oil and filter changes, most especially in turbo diesels. This is because of the high temperatures inside the turbo that can oxidize the oil, which may damage the turbo bearings and seals.
How often should I check the engine oil?
At least once a month and preferably before turning on the engine to get an accurate reading. If not, the engine should be turned off at least 5 minutes to give the oil time to drain back into the oil pan.
How come my engine oil turns black even after just a few months?
Oil is amber-colored when it’s fresh and eventually turns dark because it gets dirty over time. As oil ages, it begins to lose its protective properties and must be changed. When engine oil turns black, however, that doesn’t always mean a change is imminent.
As long as you are using a good quality engine oil and perform regular oil change intervals according to the car manufacturers recommended service interval, it is totally okay
What happens if the engine oil is not changed?
If left unchanged for quite some time, the oil will start to break down and won’t be able to provide sufficient lubrication for the internal engine parts. When this happens, the engine will get hotter than normal and cause the engine components to warp and seize.
