The Audi RS6-R by ABT could just be the quickest wagon on the school run

While there are a few examples of sport wagons being sold in the market, the reality is that many people still can’t bring themselves to drive what is essentially viewed as a mom mobile or in some cases, a wacky wooden wagon. (the latter courtesy of Chevy Chase’s National Lampoon’s Vacation fame)

Yet this has not stopped carmakers like Subaru, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi from coming up with their own sporty station wagons. Audi, for instance, has the RS6 Avant, which gives dads the best of both worlds with its 590 bhp and 591 lb-ft that rockets the wagon to 100 km/h from rest in 3.6 seconds. Yes, it’s a wagon.

Well, German tuner ABT thinks that this is not quite enough to ferry the kids to school and mom and dad to and from the office. If you agree, ABT puts forth the RS6-R Avant, a more menacing version of the already potent RS6 Avant.

Consider carbon fiber bits on the front lip, fenders, side skirts, rear diffuser, and even the quad exhaust tips that replace the dual tips on the standard car. Rounding out the package are 22-inch alloys. And yes, all these bits are intended not only to make the car look good but to help save weight as well.

As with any ABT conversion, looking good is only half of the equation. The real upgrade lies under the hood with the 4.0-liter twin turbo V8. It now puts out 730 bhp and 691 lb-ft of torque. While no performance stats have been provided, we’re quite certain that it would be close to supercar territory. But remember that this is a wagon that has 4 extra seats and loads of cargo room.

Only 125 examples will be built for true exclusivity. Still think of wagons as goofy mom mobiles?
