Ever since it was launched in the Philippine market in August of 2020, the Toyota Corolla Cross has always been about efficiency, especially in the top Hybrid Electric Vehicle trim. And that’s not a bad thing as this is what we need in these times of skyrocketing fuel prices and exhaust gas emissions.
But did you know that markets like the United States get a Corolla Cross Hybrid with a tad more excitement added to the mix? Yes, the hybrid model, which has just been launched in that market, comes with a more potent hybrid powertrain, all-wheel drive, and a load of tech for connectivity and safety?
For starters, the 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid sold in the US gets a larger displacement gasoline-electric hybrid system that puts out 194bhp and is paired with an all-wheel drive system. That’s a far cry from what we get here–121bhp from a 1.8-liter hybrid setup powering the front wheels.
Apart from this, the Corolla Cros Hybrid gets goodies like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. The latter adds tech such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, just to name a few.
While all this may add to the vehicle’s top end power, ease of connecting to one’s mobile devices, and added safety, it will likewise add to the price tag. Still, it’s interesting to see what this versatile Corolla–the world’s best selling nameplate–can offer.
Would you want Toyota Motor Philippines to offer this trim in our market?
