So what makes the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLB different from the rest of the compact crossover crowd?

Coming to the Philippines this August

Just like most any carmaker thsese days, Mercedes-Benz already has a full line-up of SUVs in in stable. You’ve got the GLA, GLC, GLE, and GLS, from smallest to largest, respectively. So one wonders, is there really room for one more? Apparently, the brand with the three-pointed star thinks so as it will be launching the Mercedes-Benz GLB in the country real soon.

So what’s different with this one, you ask?

Revealed last year, the GLB may look like just another compact SUV at first glance. Yet look a lot closer and you will see that it is this look that sets it apart from the pack. It’s upright and boxy, with an equally upright grille and windshield. And in a world of cutesy crossovers with curves everywhere, this may be quite refreshing.

Fans of the German brand will see a familial resemblance with another Merc SUV of yore, the GLK. Unlike the GLK (which has now become the rounder GLC), the GLB has one ace up its compact sleeve—a three-row seating configuration. Mercedes-Benz even claims that the third row can accommodate adults of up to 5 foot 6 inches in height.

As for engine specs and equipment, Mercedes-Benz Philippines has not revealed anything just yet. But we’re guessing it will have al the latest tech such as the brand’s vaunted MBUX system and driver assist technologies headlining the list of features.

One thing is for sure: We’ll all find out together on August 18 when the Mercedes-Benz GLB is revealed. Stay tuned for this one.
