The Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen is gorgeous in its elegant simplicity. Its surefootedness, light weight and immersive riding position via the clip-on handlebars on the forged aluminum triple clamp rounds out what I think is the most alluring standard/naked highway-legal motorcycle in our Philippine market. The cleaner design lines compared to the Svartpilen results in a minute weight reduction of 2.2 pounds but the visual impact is remarkable.
The more seductive 401 Vitpilen café racer retails for an additional P20,000.00 premium over the more upright Svartpilen urban scrambler. The amount may seem a lot for essentially a reduction and slight change of equipment but the more engaging ride position, nicer looking 5-spoke alloys wrapped with sticky Metzeler ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™ 110/70 ZR17 front & 150/60 ZR17 rear road-biased tires, and the subtle but unique design cues do justify the price adjustment.
Much like with KTM POWERWEAR products that Philippine riders and brand enthusiasts have been enjoying since the first dealership opened in BGC, Taguig back in 2016, the aftersales factory performance upgrades and generous varieties of apparel will be available for Husky riders and fans. The customization and individualization programs for buyers are an important and vibrant feature for both KTM and Husqvarna brands. The unique premium clothing lines and safety gear extend the desirability and celebration of the brands considerably.
Thankfully the 401 Vitpilen is a genuine engineered performer beyond its handsome looks. The unique riding experience will be rewarding for a very long time. Since the little café racer is so light and narrow, its riding opportunities are more extensive compared to larger and faster motorcycles. The Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, like the KTM 390 Duke may not be the fastest or quickest or even the most efficient motorcycles in our market, but they have the x-factor, that illusive personal satisfaction that only a well-built, balanced, thoughtful, and characterful product can deliver consistently. Oh, and it is still plenty fast, quicker than most vehicles on the road even, so please ride safe and be respectful to other riders and vehicles on the road.
