Toyota Motors Philippines (TMP) has upgraded the Hiace for 2016 after launching the 3.0-liter models of the people carrier.
The bigger engine is based off the 1KD-FTV turbo-diesel that powered the previous generation Hilux/Fortuner. The 3.0-liter lump been detuned for the Hiace as it now produces 136 PS at 3400 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 1200 – 2400 rpm. Originally, the engine puts out 163 PS and 343 Nm of torque in both the Fortuner and Hilux.
It replaces the smaller 2.5-liter 2KD-FTV turbo-diesel which only provided 102 PS at 3600 rpm and 260 Nm of torque at 1600 – 2400 rpm.
The 1KD-FTV inline-four turbo-diesel is available across the lineup; from the base Commuter, to the range-topping LXV Super Grandia.
