Overland Philippines is set to hold its third Overland Xpo on February 2 to 4, 2019 in Zambales. The event will have more than a hundred 4×4 vehicles to be driven within the vicinity of Mt. Pinatubo.
The convoy will have to drive approximately 200 kilometers from Manila, where vehicles and drivers will experience driving along the scenic west coast of the Philippines before reaching the campsite. The event is going to be within the vicinity of Mt. Pinatubo so adventure seekers and adrenaline junkies will have the option to trek a 5-kilometer trail to the crater.
If Australians refer to the term “Overlanding” as moving their livestock to long distances, the organizers of this expo define the term as a self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations. “It’s a step up from your usual road trip. We need to cross rivers, tackle rough terrain and getting stuck is sometimes part of the fun!” said Tim Tuazon of Mototesto Overland Equipments Philippines, one of the lead organizers of the event.
Before heading to Zambales, drivers will have a safety briefing at the R.O.X. flagship store in Bonifacio High Street, BGC, Taguig, where participants will be given thorough orientation on what to expect during the trip and preparations for themselves and for their respective vehicles.
“There won’t be any electricity, water or a gas station nearby so we want to make sure we are prepared. Fortunately, there are so many products now available locally for Overlanding such as roof-mounted tents, collapsible tables and chairs, and even portable toilets.”, said Joel Pedro of Adventure Kings Philippines.
The participants of the event will be driving both stock 4×4 vehicles and 4×4 rigs that are equipped with mud tires, lifted the suspension and auxiliary driving lights to ensure the safety of passengers and vehicles.
“We have proper wheels and tires for special drives such as this. You won’t be going to a basketball game with leather dress shoes, right?” said Justin Uy, marketing head of Black Rhino Wheels – Philippines. “Likewise, the larger tires must be complemented with a suspension that has a higher ride height and high performance dampening properties to absorb all the bumps,” added Tim Tuazon of KONI Suspension Philippines.
The 2019 Overland Xpo is backed by Adventure Kings, Black Rhino Hard Alloys, Koni, Mickey Thompson, Mototesto Overland Equipments, Thule, DAWG Overland Outfitters, Line-X, Forged, Absolute Autoworks, Mammoth, and R.O.X.
