All-new Bentley Continental Gt Convertible unveiled

20-percent lighter, 3 decibels quieter but with 626.3 brake horsepower

Bentley has detailed specifications of its latest Grand Tourer, the all-new Continental GT Convertible.

The vehicle’s profile is longer and lower than the previous generation because the front wheels are 135 mm further forward.

Headlamps are inspired by cut-crystal glasses and uses the latest LED Matrix technology.

It uses 21-inch Five Tri-Spoke wheels as standard, with the option of 10-Spoke and 22-inch Five Open-Spoke wheels. These three wheel designs are offered in a selection of ten polished and painted finishes.

There are 17 body colors and 7 roof colors to choose from. Color-matching can be made available for Bentley customers.

With the vehicle travelling at 50 km/h, the Z-fold convertible roof stows or deploys in just 19 seconds, which almost instantly turns transforms the coupe to an open-top Grand Tourer.

Under the hood is what Bentley calls ‘the most advanced 12-cylinder engine in the world’. A handbuilt 6.0-litre Bentley W12 engine with 626.3 BHP and 664 ft-lb of torque mated to a dual-clutch eight-speed transmission. It can take the vehicle from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds all the way to a top speed of 333 km/h.

Using the very latest engine management technology, it can make 300 million software calculations per second.

Power is sent to the wheels via an All-Wheel-Drive System that replaces the traditional 40:60 power delivery split between front and rear wheels.

It also comes with Bentley Dynamic Ride that uses an advanced 48-volt roll control system to adjust the electronic actuators on the anti-roll bar of each axle for improved handling and ride comfort.

Air suspensions have 60-percent more air volume in the softest setting to higher ride comfort.

The braking system uses a total of 28 pistons. Front brake discs measure 420 mm while rear calipers contain four pistons each that clamp 380 mm single-piece discs.

Inside, it’s gem is a three-sided unit called the Bentley Rotating Display houses it 12.3-inch touchscreen in the instrument panel. It revolves to reveal a touchscreen or three analogue dials that display data like navigation, media, telephone, temperature, a compass and chronometer.

Customers can choose between leather or veneers such as Koa and Dark Fiddleback Eucalyptus for the cabin. Over 10 meters of wood is used in every car and customers can opt for a polished wooden steering wheel.

Comfort seats are 20-way adjustable and comes with heating and massage functions.

For the entertainment system, a choice of three audio systems is available – the standard system features 10 speakers and 650 Watts, a Bang & Olufsen 1,500 W, 16-speaker system with illuminated speaker grilles, or a Naim 2,200 W, 18-speaker system with Active Bass Transducers.

“Elegant understatement that forces you to look; engineering excellence you’ll take for granted – the extraordinary breadth of capabilities offered by the new Continental GT Convertible is unique and can only be offered by our noble British brand. We have been building luxury Grand Tourers since the company was founded in 1919 and, as we approach our centenary year, the Continental GT Convertible joins a highly-acclaimed range – arguably the strongest and most technologically advanced portfolio of products the world has ever seen in one luxury brand,” said Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and Chief Executive, Bentley Motors.
