RSA asks government to further extend deadline for securing RFID tags

As we approach the deadline for full RFID implementation on the country’s major expressways, San Miguel Corporation President Ramon S. Ang appeals to the Department of Transportation to extend the deadline for securing an electric toll collection sticker for the sake of the throngs of motorists still unable to get one.

Ang noted that while the tollways being operated by SMC will be 100 percent RFID ready by December 1, 2020, there are still a large volume of motorists who are lining up at the various RFID installation centers located both North and South.

SMC has even set up an additional 100 installation centers to help ease the burden on existing stations. Despite this, the sheer volume is just to much to handle, Ang said.

Mr. Ang, however, did applaud the government’s move to extend the original deadline set on November 2 to December 1, 2020, along with giving a bit of leeway to not apprehend those without the tags until after January 11, 2021.

Still , he is hopeful that the government will listen to his plea to help those who will try to secure their tags even after the deadline.
