Bankruptcy for Bertone

When you think of Bertone, images of the highly evocative Alfa Romeo Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica (BAT), Lamborghini Miura, Fiat X1/9, and it wouldn’t be complete of course without the wedge shaped Lancia Stratos. Over the years they have designed some of the most beautiful cars that are often revered as works of art.

But some terribly sad news has emerged in Europe for anyone who is a fan the
Design House legend as Bertone is headed towards bankruptcy. The UK’s Telegraph reports that the famed Italian company confirmed it will enter bankruptcy proceedings due to mounting debts that have prevented the staff from working for more than a month and a half.

By the end of April, a bankruptcy court will decide if Bertone will close for good or if another company can buy it. There have been several proposals so far from foreign suitors, including one from Turkey, the newspaper reports. It’s a real shame to hear this about Bertone. In 2012 the firbatm celebrated its 100th birthday as well. We’ll be on the lookout to see what happens to Bertone next month. Let’s hope they find a way to stay open and continue to design noteworthy cars.
