BMW Philippines Officially Launches the All-New, Fully-Electric iX3

Fans of BMW are set for a shockingly delightful start to their 2023, as the local arm of the Bavarian automaker just released their first EV vehicle of the year, the new iX3 crossover SUV, set to a competitive introductory price and attached with compelling reasons, features, and promises to make you grab one immediately.

SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. President Spencer Yu led the proceedings, introducing the vehicle as their wholehearted attempt at “bringing BEV motoring closer to the general public in a package that has a more familiar look and feel.” The iX3, the electrified version of their ever-popular X3 line, is promised to be just as peppy and performance-driven as its gas-powered counterpart, if not better, thanks to its emphasis on efficiency.

The 80-kWh battery fitted to the vehicle delivers a range of 460 kilometers, with a performance output of 282hp. It shares the same eDrive powertrain with its stablemate, the iX, but the key main difference is that the iX3 is rear-wheel drive only. Be that as it may, the iX3 still lives up to its M badging with a claimed 0-100kmh time of 6.8 seconds

Inside the cabin, the all-electric crossover is BMW through and through. It features M sport appointments on the seats and steering wheel, and software-wise features the automaker’s iDrive 7.0 in-car infotainment system, which gives the driver a broad view of the car’s features at a glance, and to boot, it is also hooked up to a Harman Kardon sound system.

All the while, BMW boasts of the iX3’s achievements in sustainability. It’s the very first vehicle in the BMW i range not to use rare-earth materials for the electric motor. Moreover, the manufacturers claim that the battery cells fitted inside the vehicle can be recycled at the end of its useful life. And finally, the interior utilizes synthetic leather which gives drivers and passengers the look and feel of real leather “without having to sacrifice any cows,” as Mr. Yu humorously put it.

Set to an incredibly competitive price of P4,590,000, the iX3, much like the rest of the BMW offerings, comes with a 5-year factory warranty as well as a 6-year BMW Service warranty. However, what it does come with that serves as the proverbial cherry on top, next to the 8-year warranty on the battery that is, is the free BMW i Wallbox that can be installed by the dealer right at your home.

With Executive Order No. 12, which removes the tariff on electric vehicles, parts, and components for the next five years about to come into full effect, auto buyers can expect to see a huge influx of BEV vehicles in the near future. BMW, ever ahead of the curve, may have just laid down the gauntlet with iX3 by setting the bar for other automakers to follow.
