It’s been almost a month since the eruption of Taal Volcano. Yet relief efforts still continue to pour in to help the more than 5,000 families get back on their feet. One of these efforts came from Chevron Philippines Inc, exclusive marketers of Caltex fuels and lubricants in the country.
The fuel company turned over a check amounting to P250,000 to the Philippine Red Cross. With this, the PRC can purchase more food, water, and non-food items to distribute to families who are still residing in evacuation centers in Laguna, Cavite and nearby provinces where they were forced to flee after that fateful night.
Apart from giving families relief goods, the PRC and other government agencies also administer psychotherapy to help victims cope with the tragedy. And while the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has lowered the volcano’s status from Alert Level 4 to Level 3, residents continue to stay in evacuation centers for fear of a more powerful eruption.
Thanks to Caltex and other entities, however, we can be assured that these residents will be able to recover and return to their normal way of life real soon.
