Clean sweep for Access Plus Racing-Okada Manila in Round 4 of PSBK

It was a perfect race weekend for Access Plus Racing-Okada Manila at the Philippine Superbike Championship (PSBK) doubleheader last 2nd and 3rd of October. Riding the #77 Ducati Panigale V4R, Timothy Joseph “TJ” Alberto scored two more victories on Sunday to complete a clean sweep of all four races, further cementing his lead in the 2021 standings. His younger brother Troy also joined him on the podium on his PSBK comeback with their father Toti adding to the tally with two Master Class wins.

Despite qualifying on pole, TJ was forced to start from the back of the grid in Race 3 in P12. But that was of little concern for the Access Plus Racing-Okada Manila rider who regained the lead by the end of the first lap. He then put his head down to open a 7.044 second advantage when the chequered flag dropped. It was an added bonus that he and his Ducati Panigale V4R broke the record of Clark International Speedway (CIS) yet again with a 1:50.137 lap. TJ completed the dream of winning all four races in a single weekend during Race 4 in the afternoon. This time he was untouchable and asserted his dominance by finishing with a massive 19.327 second lead.

With lessons learned from the previous day, Troy was finally able to close the gap to the front-runners in Race 3 and claim another 4th place finish in the morning. The team then made adjustments to his Honda CBR1000RR, which would further improve his pace come the afternoon. He was able to slingshot past to 3rd at the start but was pushed back to 4th by the end of the first lap. Encouraged by his #69 machine’s renewed performance, Troy would spend the next few laps in a tight battle for a podium and chased down 2nd. However, the CBR1000RR started to lose grip after pushing for several laps forcing Troy to slow down and ensure his 3rd place.

Family patriarch Toti Alberto was so concerned for his sons that admittedly, he couldn’t focus on his own races. But this didn’t stop him from claiming 2nd in the Masters Class in the morning. And even if he held back until the very last lap in Race 4, Toti still had no issues getting past the class leader and win.

The 2021 Philippine Superbike Championship now heads to its season finale from the 10th to 12th of December for yet another doubleheader for Round 5 and 6 at the Clark International Speedway.

TJ Alberto: “I’m so happy with our race results. Couldn’t have been a more perfect weekend. We did all we could and won all the sessions plus pole position in qualifying. I also set a new lap record during the race which was a big surprise. All this shows that the team is working well, the bike is working well, and I’m riding quite good. I’m coming home with a big points lead but we still have a lot to learn before the season ender in December.”

Troy Alberto #69

Troy Alberto: “I’m happy with the results that my team and I were able to do well this weekend. It was a tough start, but we were able to continuously improve. We now have a two month break until the next race so I plan to continue to improve myself and the bike. I hope to come back stronger in December and be fighting for the podium and win.”

Toti Alberto #21

Toti Alberto: “I really wanted TJ to get a sweep of all four races as we missed one during the last leg. Thank God for blessing TJ with a perfect record. Honestly, the thought of TJ achieving this feat affected my riding as I was so careful not to crash and cause a distraction for TJ and Troy. I waited for the last lap to pass my Ducati teammate Manuel Chu for the class win. By that time TJ was way ahead of me and I knew that he had already crossed the finish line so I was able to concentrate and set my fastest lap of the weekend. The team’s and Alberto family’s goals were fulfilled this weekend and I couldn’t be happier.”
