Ford introduces a new track-focused GT Carbon Series

New Carbon Series is lightest in the Ford GT lineup, saving approximately 18kg

Ford has announced a new Carbon Series for the 2019 Ford GT. It is set to be the lightest Ford supercar, and one that can be driven home on the road after track day.

The Ford GT Carbon Series is approximately 18kg lighter compared to the standard Ford GT. It is made possible by carbon fiber wheels, a titanium exhaust, titanium wheel nuts and a lightweight polycarbonate rear hatch, with additional venting.

Despite the reduction in weight, this special edition Ford GT maintains the conveniences found in a road car. Air-conditioning, radio and SYNC 3 are still installed, providing enough comfort for drivers as they go to and from the track. There is no space to place a cup of coffee, though, as the cupholders have been removed.

Further distinguishing this third Ford GT special edition are the integration of more carbon fiber compared to previous models, in addition optional color accents.

“The Ford GT Carbon Series will stand out on the road with its striking, carbon-fiber-rich design and on the track with its athleticism,” says Hermann Salenbauch, global director, Ford Performance. “It is yet another example of how we can bring to life our Le Mans-winning supercar in new and exciting ways, so our customer can share in that magical legacy.”

On one hand, the exterior features two exposed carbon fiber stripes with matching A-pillars, lower body panels and gloss carbon fiber wheels. The interior, on the other hand, showcases matte carbon fiber sills, air register pods and center console.

The Carbon Series has a unique seat pattern with silver stitching, which is also featured on the steering wheel. It has clear anodized paddle shifters and an exclusive badge for the instrument panel.

Customers of the Ford GT Carbon Series can choose among four optional accent colors for the mirror caps, center stripe and calipers – silver, orange, red or blue.

This is an example of how we listen to our customers”, said Lance Mosley, marketing manager, Ford Performance. “While the Ford GT Competition model appeals to hardcore racing enthusiasts, we found more customers asking for more exposed carbon fiber with the air conditioning and radio still intact. So we developed the Carbon Series to satisfy that need, while providing a distinct look.”

Approved customer applicants can already order the Ford GT Carbon Series. Approximately one special model can be built each week.
