Legado Motors Inc, the official distributor or GAC vehicles in the country, has just announced that it will be increasing its vehicle prices effective March 1, 2021 due to the Safeguard Import Duty being imposed by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Bureau of Customs.
According to Legado, the new measure will see vehicle prices increase by an additional P78,000. This will cover its entire lineup, which includes the GA4, GS3, GS4, GN8, and GS8.
The move is based on a recent Department of Trade and Industry order, also known as Republic Act 8800 or the Safeguard Measure, that imposes an additional import duty of P70,000 on imported Passenger Cars and P110,000 on imported Light Commercial Vehicles. The measure is a response to a petition filed by the Philippine Metalworks Alliance, which claims that it and other local industries have been affected by the influx of imported vehicles into the country.
Despite this, Legado is optimistic that sales, which could initially slow down, won’t be greatly affected by the move.
The distributor also adds that now would be a good time to purchase a new GAC vehicle before the price increase on March 1, 2021.
