Mercedes-Benz Philippines gives the G-Class diesel power with the G350d

When one hears the letter G uttered together with the name Mercedes-Benz, the image of an off-road going machine comes to mind. This is the G-Class or Gelandewagen, which is considered the top dog in the three-pointed star’s SUV hierarchy.

First introduced in 1979, way before the Sport Utility Vehicle term was even coined, it has retained its ruggedly handsome looks with that trademark Mercedes-Benz luxury and technology. For 2020, Mercedes-Benz Philippines serves up a more practical variant in the form of the G350d. .

Just like the other members of the G-Class family, it gets modern touches like LED high performance headlights, 19-inch alloy rims, and metallic paintwork. The same story continues on the inside with leather-wrapped seats and interior panels, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 64-color ambient lighting, and infotainment system with easy device connectivity.

But what really sets this one apart from the rest of the SUV lineup is its sheer off-road ability mixed with equally capable on-road prowess. It begins with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder diesel mill that dishes out 286bhp and 442lb-ft of torque. This is mated to a 9-speed 9G-Tronic auto gearbox and advanced four-wheel drive system.

Drives can choose between five (5) driving modes via Dynamic Select to tailor the throttle, braking, steering, and suspension to their driving style and the road conditions. There are also driver aids that help occupants and other road users stay out of harm’s way. All this whether on or off the beaten path.

Yes, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class continues to b a pillar of on- and off-road luxury on wheels. And with the new G350d, one can get a bit of practicality thrown into the mix.
