After some talk on the popular crossover these last few weeks, MG Philippines has officially launched the new 2022 ZS Turbo (ZST) today. It now comes with a turbocharger and brings the power output to 162 hp.
The ZS crossover has been the best-selling model since The Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCI) took over the MG brand in the country. The combination of styling, interior package, and competitive price have been significant factors in its success with local consumers. Priced at P1,158,888, the MG ZST looks to compete with Geely’s own popular Coolray Sport that comes with a price tag of P1,198,000.
The new range-topping variant joins the Core, Style, and Alpha grades in the MG ZS lineup. A turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine replaces the 1.5-liter four-cylinder in previous models. Connected to an Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, the powertrain produces a maximum of 160 bhp and 170 lb-ft. of torque. For comparison, the Geely Coolray Sport is equipped with a 1.4-liter three-cylinder engine that puts out 174 bhp and 188 lb-ft. of torque.
The 2022 MG ZST flaunts an updated face while keeping a resemblance with the other variants. It now has full LED headlights for a sharper and sportier look, along with the new hexagonal grille with an Obsidian Matrix pattern. LED foglights and an aluminum-finished lower grille complete the front look. Also exclusive to this ZST are new 17-inch two-tone “Tomahawk” alloy wheels.
Inside, the MG ZST gets a new dashboard design to accommodate the new “Goggles” virtual assistant instrument cluster and new 10.1-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This system is connected to a total of six speakers. The general interior comes with more soft-touch material and red stitching on the steering wheel, seats, center console, and dashboard. A new 360-degree camera now comes standard for convenience and safety. Underneath this touchscreen system is piano-style buttons for the air-condition and convenience controls.
In the safety department, the ZST has front, side, and curtain airbags, blind spot information system, lane-change assist, hill-hold control, cornering brake control, traction control, vehicle dynamic control, and rear-cross traffic alert.
“With the new ZST by MG, what customers get is an upgrade of all the best features of the original ZS, headlined by a responsive turbocharged engine that provides power on tap when you need that extra boost on the road,” says Atty. Arcilla.
The ZST is available in all 39 MG Philippines dealerships nationwide, and MG dealerships will be accepting reservations starting October 2021. Reservations may also be made online at BuyAnMG.com
