As more car companies move into the age of electrification, businesses like the Manila Electric Co.’s eSakay subsidiary are likewise doing the same. Tapping the services of PilipinasAuto Group, the partnership has developed two electric vehicles that are set to revolutionize their respective target markets.
First up is the Dongfeng Rich 6, an electric pickup truck motivated by a permanent magnet synchronous motor powered by a 67.9kWh lithium-ion battery. It puts out 163bhp and 310lb-ft of torque driving the rear wheels. Dongfeng claims that the first mass-produced is fully electric pickup truck has a cruising range of 403kms based on the New European Driving Cycle. This green rig will be pressed into service with the Meralco subsidiary Green Mobility.
Then there is the Dongfeng EM26 EV cargo van that packs a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 95bhp and 170lb-ft of torque driving the rear wheels. With its 41.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack, it can reach around 220kms before needing a recharge. Ideal for cargo and logistics services, the closed van has been tapped by Mober, a leading logistics company as part of its bid to electrify its vehicle fleet.
Both vehicles are the first step towards the Meralco group’s move to go green by electrifying its services vehicle fleet. Hopefully, we get to see more Evs servicing Meralco and other Philippine companies in the years to come.
