RSA apologizes to Skyway accident victims

You may have heard by now about the freak accident that occurred on the Skyway Extension project over the weekend that resulted in 1 fatality and 4 injuries. For this, no less than San Miguel Corporation President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang issued an apology to the victims and their families.

Ang also assured them that all their needs would be met and help would be extended accordingly. And even while Skyway Extension project contractor EEI Corporation is handling the construction, Ang says that SMC, being the concession holder, is still responsible for the safety and well being of all road users.

“This terrible and tragic accident has affected me in ways I can’t even begin to express. I have not stopped thinking about the people who were affected, the four that were injured and most especially, the person who perished, and his family. There are no words that can ease the grief of losing a loved one,” Ang said.

“To the family, I can only offer my sincerest and deepest condolences, and my personal assurance that your family will be taken care of. To those who were injured, please be assured we will provide all the means necessary for you to recover and restart,” he added.

To recap, the accident was caused by a crane that tipped over while getting into position. This caused it to hit a steel girder that fell to grade level, hitting 6 vehicles. This, as mentioned above, resulted in 4 injuries and 1 fatality.
