Michelin, the leading tire company, is set to conquer Southeast Asian streets, where motorcycle sales have grown tremendously in the last few years, with a new tire introduction. Barely six years after launching the Pilot Street sport commuter motorcycle tires, Michelin now comes out with its successor– the Pilot Street 2. In an exclusive launch event held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, Michelin gathered the motorcycle press from different Southeast Asian countries to witness the launch and to learn more about its technical specifications.
The Michelin Pilot Street is specifically designed for small displacement commuter motorcycles up to 300cc, and the Pilot Street 2 improved upon its predecessor in many key areas; The tread pattern draws its inspiration from Michelin’s racing tires, and more particularly those used in MotoGP World Championship. The front tire’s circumferential groove ensures optimal agility. Combined with progressive lateral shoulder grooves, it delivers a high level of performance on wet roads. The central grooves of the rear tire (or front and rear tires depending on size) optimizes water-clearance capabilities, while at the same time providing outstanding grip on dry roads, along with long tire life.
Michelin is so confident with the Pilot Street 2 that they claim it’s safe when dry, safe when wet. Of course the Pilot Street 2 wet performance claims are backed by solid data validated by TUV, an independent body that approved the results of a test carried out at Fontange, France, in September 2018. During the test, the Michelin Pilot Street 2 lapped a 1.2 kilometer wet circuit 4.4 seconds faster than its main rivals. Whatever the road conditions, the Michelin Pilot Street 2 allows riders to travel in complete safety, in dry or wet conditions, while delivering long tire life, which has been in Michelin DNA for more than a century.
The Michelin Pilot Street 2 is made in Asia, and can supply Asian and Oceanian markets. Its tread pattern and compounds were designed by engineers from Michelin’s Research and Development Center to provide the total performance expected by customers. The Michelin Pilot Street 2 is designed for scooters and motorcycles fitted with 10, 14, 16 and 17 inch wheels. Expect the Pilot Street 2 to reach your local motorcycle tire distributors by late September 2019.
