As construction of San Miguel Corporation’s Mass Rail Transit 7 continues at full steam ahead, the conglomerate has likewise begun to build the 20 hectare train depot that will be the stabling area for its host of train cars.
The property is located in San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan and will have a capacity of 150 train cars. This is way beyond the 108 train cars that are set to arrive by the end of this year. The larger capacity is in anticipation of future expansion plans should the need arise later on.
The train cars are designed and engineered by South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem and will have a route that will pass 14 stations. The entire project is aimed at decongesting Metro Manila traffic, as well as helping decrease pollution by lessening the number of cars emitting toxic fumes while stuck in traffic. This, in turn, is aimed at boosting economic growth in the long term.
The MRT-7 project is set to be completed by the end of 2023.
