Visionary leadership, significant and long-term contributions to the country, and unprecedented response to the COVID-19 crisis—these are the attributes that made San Miguel Corporation President and Chief Operating Officer Ramond S. Ang the recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Contributor Award for the private sector at the 2020 Asia CEO Awards.
The award giving body cited Ang’s numerous contributions not only during the COVID-19 pandemic but also his long term programs and goals that are aimed at helping the country achieve sustainable growth. All this, the entity said, are helping the government and more importatnly, the Filipino people cope with the present situation and have a shot at a brighter future.
SMC’s COVID-19 response efforts, for instance, have seen programs such as food donations, aid to frontliners and health institutions, as well as help extended to marginalized sectors of society. It hs even made food more accessible to the general publicvia its rolling stores and other initiatives that have likwise helped farmers by providing them with a source of income.
Apart from COVID-19 response programs, SMC has undertaken a slew of infrastructure projects such as the construction of major expressways that are designed to help reduce travel times, ease traffic in urban centers like Metro Manila, and connect varoous parts of the country in the hopes of boosting the economy.
And of course, the environment is at the core of SMC’s efforts. The cleanup of major rivers and bodies of water are not only meant to ease or even eliminate flooding but are likewise aimed at making them safe for all.
The Asia CEO Awards is considered as one of the largest and most prestigious award giving bodies in the Asia Pacific region.
