The AC Cobra is back and comes with either four-cylinder turbo gasoline or electric propulsion

Remember the AC Cobra? The more mature folks out there. As well as true car aficionados, may recall this roadster from the 1960s that was also sold as the Shelby Cobra in markets like the United States. Well, AC Cars is now offering brand new AC Cobras with modern-day tech to boot.

From the outside, you wouldn’t know that this is a brand new example as everything about the car’s design, inside and out, comes from the 1960s classic. Pop the hood, however, and you will see either a four-cylinder Ford mill or an electric motor.

Yes, the new AC Cobra comes in two flavors. One is the Charter Edition, that comes with a 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost four-cylinder from the Mustang that’s good for 350bhp. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6 seconds. Then there is the Series 1 Electric, which packs a 54kWh lithium-ion battery driving an electric motor. This one blasts from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds, thanks to either 184lb-ft of continuous or 369lb-ft of peak torque.

Of course, numerous modifications have been done to the throttle, brakes, steering, and suspension to help these cope with the new power. The lightweight chassis itself is made of high-grade composite material for added strength.

Only 58 examples of each car will be built.
