Geely Azkarra enters local compact SUV segment with game-changing mild hybrid technology

Redefining the segment—this is how Sojitz G Auto Philippines hopes to position its newest compact SUV, the Azkarra. The second-generation Azkarra was launched to the local motoring media via digital reveal earlier today.

Sporting a sleek and svelte profile, it boasts of a flowing exterior design that is both functional and eye-catching. It looks more expeensive that its pricetag suggests and is aimed at those folks who are after a stylish ride.

Apart from this, the Azkarra also packs features like the latest in infotainment and device connectivity, as well as a well-thought out dash design that would look at home in a European car. Moreover, it has goodies like Nappa leather—again, something you wouldn’t expect from its price point—are part of the package.

But arguably the biggest draw that the Azkrra has is its 48-volt Electric Motor Synergy model. Available in 4×4 configuration, it is powered by a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder gasoline motor, just like its Coolray cousin. This one, however, is complemented by a 48-volt Belt Starter Generator, a 48V-12 DCDC converter, 48V lithium-ion battery module, and battery management system.

All this combines for a total system output of 190 bhp and 221 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 4×2 variant available, minus the EMS system.

Apart from this, the Azkarra, along with the Coolray, is the first vehicle in its class to come with Geely’s CN95 air purification filter. This cabin filter essentially cleans the cabin air from impurities, including bacteria that may be dangerous to occupants’ health. Geely says this CN95 filter can be reeplaced just like a regular cabin filter.

Regular readers may recall we brought out a story a week or so ago revealing the Azkarra’s price. For the benefit of those who missed that one, here are the final sticker prices:

  • Azkaraa Premium 4×2: PhP 1,438,000
  • Azkarra 4×4 with 48V Mild Hybrid: PhP 1,590,000

First launched in 2016, the Azkarra enters the popular compact SUV segment with premium features, as well as game-changing equipment levels like a mild hybrid system and CN95 filtration system.
