True Mercedes-Benz fans will know that the brand has a dark side. We of course refer to the Black Series, which now finds its way to the desirable AMG GT.
In terms of looks, it gets a larger grille, a manually adjustable splitter on the bumper, hood and fender air vents, as well as side panel intakes that are all borrowed from the AMG GT3 and GT4 race cars. Out back, a new rear bumper with double diffuser and a large rear wing with both electronic (center part) and manual adjustments.
Being a Black Series, the real heart of the matter is the 4.0-liter V8 with flat plane crank design. This means it is essentially a new engine designated as M178 LS2. It puts out 720bhp and 590lb-ft of torque. Apart from the awesome figures, this motor is one rev-happy best with a 7,200rpm redline. Torque comes in as low as 2,000 revs and goes all the way to 6,000rpm.
All this translates to a 0-100km/h time of 3.1 seconds and a terminal velocity of 325km/h. It also features a twin-scroll turbocharger with a 24.6 psi boost , cooled by larger intercoolers for better efficiency. Power is sent to the drive wheels via reinforced 7-speed DCT. And those wheels are sized 19s up front and 20s out back, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO rubber that was designed specifically for this ride.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series should hit the scene in early 2021.
