The new Volkswagen Golf Clubsport is an even hotter GTI

The Volkswagen Golf GTI is considered by many as the benchmark for hot hatches. It’s mix of practicality and power make it both fun and a great daily driver. Yet if it isn’t hot enough for you, then you might want to check out the newly-launched Golf GTI Clubsport.

You can tell the Clubsport apart from the regular GTI thanks to a revised front end with a new mesh grille, winged elements, blacked out trims, circular exhaust tips, and a blacked out rear roof spoiler. Inside, this one gets ArtVelours upholstery and red stitching. Leather is optional for those that prefer it to the grippy fabric.

The Clubsport moniker does indicate added power and a few tweaks to the suspension, steering, and even the drive modes. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder that puts out 296bhp and 295lb-ft. This is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that allows the hotter hatch to do the 0-100km/h run in less than 6 seconds and hit a 250km/h top speed.

Straight line speed aside, VW gives the GTI Clubsport goodies like Variable Shocks and Steering that help it respond to inputs and changes a lot quicker. There is also the upgraded Vehicle Dynamics Control that now allows manipulation of the Variable Locking Front Differential.

Sitting 15mm lower to the ground than the standard GTI, the suspension likewise responds quicker to changes and even has a Special setting that was tuned at no less than the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This means it can take even the most demanding corners with ease.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport is now available to order.
