The Scout brand coming back as VW-built EVs

Volkswagen has been doing its best to be a key player in the now en vogue vehicle electrification industry. Its range of ID electric vehicles are putting full EV in the hands of mainstream consumers. Yet VW is not about to rest any time soon as it is all set to relaunch the Scout brand as a maker of EV trucks and SUVs real soon.

The German company revealed that it will be establishing a new company called Scout, which will be tasked with designing  and engineering an electric pickup truck and SUV for  one of the most competitive markets in the world–the United States. Electrifying pickups and SUVs, VW says, is the way to go to keep them sustainable amidst the clamor for cleaner and greener vehicles.

These new rigs are not simply rebadged VWs,the company said. They will be built using existing platforms that will be re-engineered to make them truly efficient yet still capable off-road. Enthusiasts may recall the Scout brand produced by International Harvester back in the 1960s to the 1980s. It sold a pickup and SUV that could hold their own against the likes of Jeep and other off-road capable brands of the time.

If all goes according to plan, we can expect a prototype to be revealed by 2024. This should be followed by production vehicles by the year 2026. Stay tuned for all these.
