Toyota Corolla shows off its sporty side with the Apex Edition

It’s a well known fact that the Toyota Corolla is widely considered as being one of the more conservative offerings in the industry. Sure, it’s got sporty iterations but these are few and far between. Well, Toyota USA now offers the TRD-line Corolla Apex Edition.

From the outside, one will be able to tell the sport Apex Edition apart from the regular variants with the aero kit, rear spoiler, bronze accents, and blacked out 18-inch alloy wheels. The last bit is specific to the Apwx Edition and is even 2lbs lighter per wheel. This is meant to improve driving dynamics.

Step into the cabin and you will find either cloth or leather seats, with the latter having power adjustments. Toyota also throws in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—a first for the Corolla.

Powering the new Apex Edition Corolla is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder mil with 169bhp and 151lb-ft of torque, hooked up to either a CVT or a 6-speed manual for the enthusiast drivers out there. This powertrain is matched by a more dynamic suspension setup that consists of unique coil springs with rebound shocks, making the car sit 0.6 inches lower, as well as giving it a stiffer ride.

Toyota USA will only be selling 6,000 examples of the Corolla Apex Edition. Buyers can choose between Cement or Super White (both with a black roof), or Black Sand Pearl.
