2016 Toyota Fortuner V 4×4

Words & Pictures: Kevin C. Limjoco

Toyota is clearly the Philippine automotive market leader for good reason. They produce the most outstanding and dependable generalist vehicles in our market. Each of the leading products are the best sellers per segment, the top three being the Innova, the Vios, and the Fortuner. We, the entire C! Team, have tested the entire Toyota product roster extensively but Isabel and I were the very last to get our extended seat time on the extremely popular top-range Fortuner V 4×4. So here are our short lists of what we essentially think of the Philippine best seller:

The Pros-
Has the very best exterior and interior designs in its class.
Excellent LED front and rear light assemblies.
Best looking alloy wheels in its class.
The dark chocolate colored leather appointments are good and refreshingly different.
Vibrant diesel engine that feels stronger than it is combined with a very good, well-spaced gear ratio 6-speed automatic transmission.
Best front brakes in its class.
Much quieter and a lot more comfortable than before.
Satisfactory navigational system.
Has cruise control and Drive Modes for Normal, ECO, and more energetic Sport.
Smart key and Start/Stop ignition.
Fully matching switchgear color scheme.
Automatic door locks engage when moving.
Healthy trunk space with seats folded up.
Handles exceedingly better than before and actually feels the most planted on the road in its class.

The Cons-
Hollow sounding, sub-par quality audio without a standard rear camera.
Navigation antenna is exposed on the dashboard and looks like a poorly installed after-market feature.
4×4 drive engagement a bit rough yet thankfully very capable.
Rear drum brakes look and feel out of place in a vehicle that looks sophisticated and upscale.
Third-row fold-up seats should have remained in the past.
The Innova makes more efficient space management from the same chassis.
The most expensive in its class
Limited exterior and interior color selection.
